La Experiencia Gringo G

Resumen: La visita del Gringo en Seattle fue muy corta, pero muy agradable. La vista desde West Seattle, al otro lado de Puget Sound desde el centro de Seattle (o lo que todo mundo piensa que es Seattle) es impresionante y fue un lugar tranquilo para que Gringo G se hospedara y desde el cual se puede llegar rápidamente a la ciudad.

La comida: El primer restaurante fue Marination Ma Kai, donde el Gringo pasó para un lunch rápido poco después de llegar a West Seattle y antes de dar un paseo por la cercana Alki Beach en bicicleta. Marination es un puesto de comida rápida con toques asiáticos, hawaianos y del pacífico en el parque Seacrest a un lado de Alki Beach. La comida era bastante decente y el sándwich de jamón enlatado spam en un Rol Hawaiano (supuestamente sí tienen este platillo en Hawai) fue interesante igual que su versión de Fish and Chips. Para tratarse de un restaurante de comida rápida tiene una vista incomparable de Puget Sound y el centro de Seattle.

El segundo lugar que visitó Gringo G es Salty's on Alki Beach un restaurante muy famoso entre lo locales, recomendado al Gringo por gente de Seattle antes de su viaje, que tiene una vista increíble del centro de la ciudad.

Los platillos fueron muy Buenos, el camarón empanizado con coco y un Clam Chowder de la costa oeste fueron lo más destacado de la noche. La vista de los rascacielos en la noche fue la cereza en el pastel.

A la mañana siguiente Gringo G caminó por West Seattle para conocer más la zona y por varias recomendaciones llegó a Easy Street Records & Café, una institución del rock en Seattle con conciertos en vivo. Tras comprar CDs usados llegó el café y de no ser porque ya había desayunado el Gringo G se habría comido uno de los desayunos abundantes que la clientela estaba disfrutando, el café fue muy bueno de todas formas.

Tras hacer check out  Gringo G se dirigió a sus anhelados sándwiches de Armandino's Salumi.  Hay que llamar un día antes para poder pasar por ellos sin hacer fila (si no la espera puede ser de hasta dos horas según las reseñas en internet). El sándwich de salami tipo Sopresatta picante era una ola de ricura grasosa. El Salumi Muffo con salami Cotto (ahumado), Sopresatta y Tapenade (puré de olivas) de la casa fue igualmente una revelación y como se podrá ver tras una caminata por el Discovery Park y su playa la vista donde Gringo G comió su sándwich fue surreal incluyendo Mount Rainier.

The Lodging: Gringo G buscó un lugar para dormir por una noche con estacionamiento incluido y lejos del ruido del centro de la ciudad. The Grove West Seattle Inn cumplió las expectativas, no es nada del otro mundo pero es muy conveniente y con un precio muy razonable para Seattle.

Pa Pasar El Rato: 

Aparte del Discovery Park y Alki Beach Gringo G fue al centro (lo tuvieron que convencer) para ver los lugares más turísticos de la ciudad. El famoso Pike Place Market, está bien, pero no impresionó al Gringo ante la gran cantidad de mercados increíbles de México. El primer local de Starbucks tenía mucha gente y era demasiado turístico para Gringo G, pero si de verdad quieren ir pues adelante, en gustos se rompen géneros.

Gringo G’s Experience

Summary: Seattle was a short stop for the Gringo but an ejoyable one nonetheless. The views from West Seattle, across Puget Sound from Downtown Seattle (what everyone thinks Seattle is), are stunning and provided Gringo G a calm place to stay where he could launch quickly into the city!

The Eats: First up is the Marination Ma Kai, where the Gringo stopped for a quick lunch shortly after arriving in West Seattle and before cruising down nearby Alki Beach on a bike. Marination is a hybrid Hawaiian Pacific Rim quick food joint built into Seacrest Park by Alki Beach. The food was decent and the spam sandwich on a Hawaiin Roll (they do have these in Hawaii accordingly) was interesting as well as the Fish and Chips. The view though for a fast food joint is almost unbeatable, a view of Puget Sound and the Seattle Skyline.

The second place the Gringo G visited is Salty's on Alki Beach which is prominently known by locals (recommended to the Gringo by locals before his trip) as a good seafood joint with an immense view of Downtown. The seafood was very nice ... with the coconut encrusted prawns and West Coast Clam Chowder highlighting the evening. The Skyline at night was the cherry on top of this sundae though!

The morning after the dinner the Gringo G strolled around West Seattle to see what it was like and on the recommendation of reviews we went to Easy Street Records & Café which has hosted live shows of a multitude of Seattle bands. After purchasing some nice used CDs we had a coffee (and would have one of the gnarly looking breakfasts if it had not been for the hotel breakfast we had before). It was a nice place for a coffee!

Finally after checking out of the hotel Gringo G headed to get his long sought after sandwiches from Armandino's Salumi. Calling a day ahead of time to get them as take out without a line (that can last as long as two hours according to online reviews) was well worth it. The Hot Sopresatta was dripping in wonderful  greasy, spicy goodness. The Salumi Muffo with Cotto and Sopresatta and House Tapenade was wonderful and as you can see below ... after the Mexico City Foodie's walk around Discovery Park and Beach the view while eating them was surreal including Mount Rainier!

The Lodging: Gringo was just looking for a place to crash for the night where he could park his car without an extra charge away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Seattle. The Grove West Seattle Inn definetely fits the bill ... no frills but very convenient at a very reasonable price for Seattle!

Things To Do: 

Other than the aforementioned Discovery Park and Alki Beach Gringo G only got into Downtown (after much convincing) to hit up the tourist sites during his first afternoon in Seattle. Pike Place Market, world famous was alright ... but simply could not impress the Gringo given the multitude of markets in Mexico. The first Starbucks location was too crowded and far too touristy for Gringo G ... but if you want to do this stuff then to each his own!
