Mexican Moonlight Dining Series Part III: J&G Grill Mexico - Fine Dining with the Diana Cazadora & The Harvest Moon!

The Place: J&G Grill Mexico - Fine Dining with the Diana Cazadora & The Harvest Moon!

The Experience: Gringo G, your favorite Gringo Mexico City Foodie Blog, in search of the best views of the famous October Harvest Moon (a Mexican legend states that the most stunning moonlight can be seen in October) headed to one of the most prestigous hotels in Mexico, the St. Regis, where inside the J&G Grill possesses a terrace overlooking the always lustrous La Diana Cazadora Monument on Paseo de la Reforma that is even more splendid under the October Moonlight.

J&G is all about the créme de la créme concept: from the quality of its amazing location & view to the service to the top-end ingredients & food to the price point. Gringo G enjoyed a fantastic Hamachi Sashimi accompanied by a creative Ginger Margarita with Tequila Reposado followed by a complimentary steaming hot squash soup with huitlacoche. The second course Gringo G devoured was a rich, decadent Beef Carpaccio Pizza along with a Whiskey Fizz (with Passion Fruit or "Maracuyá").

The entire experience was professional, top-end and the view of the moonlit October sky with the Diana shining in all her glory under the moonlight was a fantastic way to close out this Mexican October Moonlight Dining Series!

Location: Paseo de la Reforma 439, intersection with Río Misisipi, Colonia Cuauhtémoc, DF.

The Specials:

The Hamachi Sashimi was a mind-numbing flavor rainbow, just like the exquisite presentation shown below, and if up to Gringo G could be consumed with the Whiskey Fizz with Maracuyá (Passion Fruit) alone on a nice moonlit night on the J&G Terrace!

The Beef Carpaccio Pizza was rich, decadent and with a wide range of flavors. Other recommendations that can be seen on line are the short ribs and the Avocado & Cilantro Pizza.

Tips: If you want the best view of the Diana Cazadora Monument you need to do two things. First make sure to make a reservation at night, so you can see the monument lit up at its best. Second make sure to reserve or simply show up and ask for a seat at the Terrace Bar which has the primetime view of the monument.

Mexican Moonlight Dining Series Part II: Romita Comedor - Mexican Fine Dining with a Drink Under the Moonlit Sky!

The Place: Romita Comedor - Mexican Fine Dining with a Drink Under the Moonlit Sky!

The Experience: Gringo G, your favorite Gringo Mexico City Foodie Blog, in search of the best views of the famous October Harvest Moon (a Mexican legend states that the most stunning moonlight can be seen in October) decided to finally check out a popular, hip (almost hipster so if you don't like this then it might not be your cup of tea) restaurant with a very nice view of Porfirian Roma Norte and the nice moonlit October sky.

The atmosphere was vibrant with interesting music on with a lot of 90's classics taking over, a packed house with intelligent young professionals (mostly) and an amazing view of Avenida Álvaro Obregón from the expansive windows that encompass the entire outward facing wall of the restaurant ... it became even more lively when they retracted the roof and you could see the moonlit sky and some fireworks from a nearby festival or party.

The service was professional but not overbearing. The drinks were very creative with a nice selection of mezcal and tequila-based cocktails as well as gin and whiskey-based classics as well. The food was all creative and well-prepared, basically a nice mix between traditional Mexican fare and creative modern Mexican fare.

Overall this place is worth a look, particularly if you are looking to be seen in a very lively restaurant in one of D.F.s hippest areas!

The Location: Av. Álvaro Obregón 49, almost intersection with Mérida, Colonia Roma Norte, DF.

The Specials:

The grilled octopus and most of the Mexican-inspired fusion seafood are all excellent choices and seem to be the most popular dishes.

Almost all of the mixologist quality cocktails are excellent, creative and many have a nice Mexican twist like the "Meteorito" or Meteorite which is a mix of mezcal, ginger and chile. This drink was a new and exciting experience for Gringo G.

"Meteorito" or Meteorite: Mixed Drink with Mezcal, Ginger & Chile

Banana Wrap Empanadas filled with Black Beans & Topped with Ricotta Cheese

Whiskey Sour

"Jaibas Rellenas" or Stuffed Crabs

"Raspado de Tamarindo" or Tamarind Iced Drink with Mezcal

Tips: The place is packed even on weeknights. You need to call and reserve a spot ahead of time. The Opentable page for Romita Comedor does not seem to be working, Gringo G recommends calling directly.

Mexican Moonlight Dining Series Part I: Bellini's - A bird's eye view of the moon!

The Place: Bellini's: A bird's eye view of the moon!

The Experience: Gringo G, your favorite Gringo Mexico City Foodie Blog, in search of the best views of the famous October Harvest Moon (a Mexican legend states that the most stunning moonlight can be seen in October) went to Bellini's restaurant towering 45 stories above the Colonia Nápoles. Bellini's not only has a view of the bright moon but also the entire panorama of Mexico City below.

Bellini's is the largest rotating restaurant in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records and offers panoramic views of the city lights, moonlit sky and when clear the city skyline during lunch service. The food has been improved over time in Gringo G's opinion and has now started to produce the high-end traditional international cuisine needed for a restaurant with this price tag. The highlights are the many lobster dishes, fish dishes and meat dishes prepared at your table-side (salted pompano, steak tartar and the dessert flambes come to mind).

With this exceptional view and carefully prepared food come a high price tag but if you are looking to impress on business or impress a date then this is a great option in Mexico City. Also there is usually live piano music to help set the mood.

The Location: World Trade Center México 45th Floor, Calle De Las Naciones, Colonia Nápoles, DF.

The Specials:

The live lobsters are an attraction worthy of the view in the restaurant. The massive Prime Rib that the Gringo dug into is also very nice. Some of the old school classics such as the steak tartare and seafood pasta are also worth a try.

ALARM: Mr. Lobster is on the Loose

Seafood Linguine

Prime Rib English Style

Tips: The Sunday Brunch is very nice and is the only time Bellini´s has anything similar to breakfast service. The towers of prawns and seafood make the hefty price tag worth it. Plus you won´t get a better view at breakfast time in Mexico City.

A tip to help keep the wallet intact is to just go up and ask to sit in the bar for a drink. You do not need a reservation and you will have the same incredible view.

Ubicación: World Trade Center México Piso 45, Calle De Las Naciones, Colonia Nápoles, DF.

Platillos especiales:
